RxNorm & HCPCS Integration Into ArioGPT’s Ontology Engine Enhances Clinical Intelligence

Prescription and treatment data should tell us something meaningful about a patient’s journey. Too often, though, simply understanding what medication or therapy a patient received requires more work than it should. Diving deep into this data demands understanding complex, unintuitive, and evolving coding standards.

That is a key reason we’ve invested in integrating both RxNorm and HCPCS more deeply into ArioGPT.

RxNorm provides a standardized way to identify medications, while HCPCS captures the drugs, biologics, supplies, and services that appear in medical claims. This distinction matters because the same therapy can show up very differently depending on where and how it was delivered.

By bringing these coding systems into ArioGPT’s semantic knowledge layer, we can better connect those different representations back to the patient journey.

The critical question for us is: how much more could teams learn from their data if they spent less time figuring out how it is coded?
